Happy March! One of my favorite months, not only because it is my birthday month, but because this is the time of year that everything is coming back to life and blooming! I love watching the desert come to life with flowers and being colorful! Right now my gardens are filled with flowers that bring by the butterflies and it is saturated in color between the flowers and the fluttering butterflies! What is your favorite things about spring, and before you tell me it isn’t technically yet, Phoenix has already hit 90° and we hope it cools down again.

Happy February! I love yellow and the bright warm feeling that it gives! So, when this butterfly landed on these black-eyed Susans I was so happy I was standing right there!! I hope that this image will, most literally, brighten your screen this month!

January 2026

Happy January! I hope that you had a great holiday season and are ready to start a whole new year! It’s that time when we reflect on the things that we learned from last year and think ahead to the things that we want to do differently or things we want to accomplish in this new year. I am always making lists for myself of things. One of the top things on my list for this year is to photograph butterflies again! I loved walking around in Butterfly Wonderland. It was always so peaceful and gave me time to reflect. So just know that there are many more butterfly images on their way to your desktop!

Do you ever think back on the start of a journey that you didn't even realize was going to be a life-changer for you? Let me take you on a little trip back to when I first discovered the wonder of Butterfly Wonderland!

My official photographic journey with butterflies started back around five years ago when Myles, my son, had a field trip to Butterfly Wonderland, and my very young daughter, Violet, and I got to go along. To say it was magical would be a complete understatement. If you have never been there I would highly suggest taking a trip if you can. From the moment I walked through the doors into the conservatory, I could feel the weight of troubles of everyday life being lifted. The conservatory is like a mini rainforest with higher humidity, the waterfall, the koi pond, and plants everywhere you look. While you are soaking in this bit of paradise that is when you see all of the different types of majestic butterflies dancing from flower to flower, it is just amazing!

After that field trip, I became an annual member and Butterfly Wonderland quickly became my getaway and a little “me time” place. I would go up and spend a couple of hours soaking in the beauty of the butterflies, relaxing and photographing. I can’t tell you how much I love my visits there and I look forward, every time, to the next time I get to go back!
